《自然就會抗癌:罹癌醫師的科學觀點》- 讀書心得 ( Anti-cancer will live in nature )

薛瑞柏醫師是匹茲堡大學醫學院精神科臨床教授,也是整合醫療中心的共同創辦人。他擁有醫學博士及認知神經科學博士學位,曾擔任「無國界醫師」組織義工前往伊拉克。1992年在一次腦部造影的實驗中,意外發現自己腦中有腫瘤。他的第一本書《癒合的本能》在四十個國家出版,成為國際暢銷書。《自然就會抗癌》已翻譯成三十五種語言,在五十個國家出版,並在歐美等國造成極大迴響。薛瑞柏醫師現居美國賓州匹茲堡和法國巴黎兩地。

本書的作者也是如此, 他是個腦神經的學術醫師,在某一次同事戲玩中,照了自己的腦部核磁共振,卻意外的發現腦瘤。他做了該做的治療,想要多做些事避免癌症復發,醫師卻告訴他,你可以選擇你認為的防癌食物,防癌生活,但這些都沒有科學證據證明有效。

作者於是像一般的病人一樣不信邪,所以積極閱讀關於癌症的論文,由於他醫師的背景,比較不會被江湖術士所矇騙。所以他提出的防癌抗癌的方法,雖然多數仍無確切科學證據來證明(這也是一般食物營養學的困境,食物是否健康,取決於太多的因素,包括飲食者的生活型態,搭配其他什麼食物,所以不容易用統計的方式抽出相關性)。但起碼書中提到的理論原則應該是可以禁得起考驗的。

他在書中提到了抗癌的環境,抗癌的食物,抗癌的心靈,抗癌的身體。其中抗癌的食物提到了精製糖對人體內癌細胞的促發(以前我以為精製糖只會引發糖尿病),還有現在飼養動物的方式,多是純粹餵食玉米,導致動物身上的 omega-3脂肪酸和其他的營養素都缺乏

我問我的腫瘤醫師,是否應該改變我的飲食,好讓治療發揮最大的效果,避免癌症再次復發。...以下略,但他的回答仍然是陳腔濫調:「吃你喜歡吃的東西。怎麼吃不會有太大的差別。但不論如何都要保持你的體重。」

在這個實驗室裡,還沒有老鼠在注射 S180 細胞後可以存活兩個月,而第六號老鼠如今卻已存活了八個月,即使牠的腹部以直接注射了大量的癌細胞,而癌細胞在腹部往往是以最快的速度繁殖。因此崔征開始懷疑,或許他們遇到了不可能的事情-- 一隻天生能對抗癌症的老鼠。

對於某些類型的癌症,從西醫的觀點來說,罹癌者幾乎就被判定了死刑,雖然醫師會對你說,接受醫師的治療,你在五年後,十年後有多少機率會存活。這樣的存活機率不會讓病人滿意,許多病人不能接受自己什麼都做不了,只能接受治療後等死。


心得

  • 不能常讓身體過份勞累,不能常讓身體太多自由基;
  • 常有氧運動;
  • 少吃糖、澱粉、牛奶類,屬於癌細胞吃的食物
  • 創造抗癌的環境,抗癌的食物,抗癌的心靈,抗癌的身體。

新的仿生科技: Aimee Mullins: My 12 pairs of legs ( The new bionics )

I was speaking to a group of about 300 kids, ages six to eight, at a children's museum, and I brought with me a bag full of legs, similar to the kinds of things you see up here, and had them laid out on a table for the kids. And, from my experience, you know, kids are naturally curious about what they don't know, or don't understand, or is foreign to them. They only learn to be frightened of those differences when an adult influences them to behave that way, and maybe censors that natural curiosity, or you know, reins in the question-asking in the hopes of them being polite little kids. So I just pictured a first grade teacher out in the lobby with these unruly kids, saying, "Now, whatever you do, don't stare at her legs." But, of course, that's the point. That's why I was there, I wanted to invite them to look and explore. So I made a deal with the adults that the kids could come in without any adults for two minutes on their own. The doors open, the kids descend on this table of legs, and they are poking and prodding, and they're wiggling toes, and they're trying to put their full weight on the sprinting leg to see what happens with that. And I said, "Kids, really quickly — I woke up this morning, I decided I wanted to be able to jump over a house — nothing too big, two or three stories — but, if you could think of any animal, any superhero, any cartoon character, anything you can dream up right now, what kind of legs would you build me?" And other things that I don't — aren't familiar with. And then, one eight-year-old said, "Hey, why wouldn't you want to fly too?" And the whole room, including me, was like, "Yeah." (Laughter) And just like that, I went from being a woman that these kids would have been trained to see as "disabled" to somebody that had potential that their bodies didn't have yet. Somebody that might even be super-abled. Interesting. So some of you actually saw me at TED, 11 years ago. And there's been a lot of talk about how life-changing this conference is for both speakers and attendees, and I am no exception. TED literally was the launch pad to the next decade of my life's exploration. At the time, the legs I presented were groundbreaking in prosthetics. I had woven carbon fiber sprinting legs modeled after the hind leg of a cheetah, which you may have seen on stage yesterday. And also these very life-like, intrinsically painted silicone legs. So at the time, it was my opportunity to put a call out to innovators outside the traditional medical prosthetic community to come bring their talent to the science and to the art of building legs. So that we can stop compartmentalizing form, function and aesthetic, and assigning them different values. Well, lucky for me, a lot of people answered that call. And the journey started, funny enough, with a TED conference attendee — Chee Pearlman, who hopefully is in the audience somewhere today. She was the editor then of a magazine called ID, and she gave me a cover story. This started an incredible journey. Curious encounters were happening to me at the time; I'd been accepting numerous invitations to speak on the design of the cheetah legs around the world. And people would come up to me after the conference, after my talk, men and women. And the conversation would go something like this, "You know Aimee, you're very attractive. You don't look disabled." (Laughter) I thought, "Well, that's amazing, because I don't feel disabled." And it really opened my eyes to this conversation that could be explored, about beauty. What does a beautiful woman have to look like? What is a sexy body? And interestingly, from an identity standpoint, what does it mean to have a disability? I mean, people — Pamela Anderson has more prosthetic in her body than I do. Nobody calls her disabled. So this magazine, through the hands of graphic designer Peter Saville, went to fashion designer Alexander McQueen, and photographer Nick Knight, who were also interested in exploring that conversation. So, three months after TED I found myself on a plane to London, doing my first fashion shoot, which resulted in this cover — "Fashion-able"? Three months after that, I did my first runway show for Alexander McQueen on a pair of hand-carved wooden legs made from solid ash. Nobody knew — everyone thought they were wooden boots. Actually, I have them on stage with me: grapevines, magnolias — truly stunning. Poetry matters. Poetry is what elevates the banal and neglected object to a realm of art. It can transform the thing that might have made people fearful into something that invites them to look, and look a little longer, and maybe even understand. I learned this firsthand with my next adventure. The artist Matthew Barney, in his film opus called the "The Cremaster Cycle." This is where it really hit home for me — that my legs could be wearable sculpture. And even at this point, I started to move away from the need to replicate human-ness as the only aesthetic ideal. So we made what people lovingly referred to as glass legs even though they're actually optically clear polyurethane, a.k.a. bowling ball material. Heavy! Then we made these legs that are cast in soil with a potato root system growing in them, and beetroots out the top, and a very lovely brass toe. That's a good close-up of that one. Then another character was a half-woman, half-cheetah — a little homage to my life as an athlete. 14 hours of prosthetic make-up to get into a creature that had articulated paws, claws and a tail that whipped around, like a gecko. (Laughter) And then another pair of legs we collaborated on were these — look like jellyfish legs, also polyurethane. And the only purpose that these legs can serve, outside the context of the film, is to provoke the senses and ignite the imagination. So whimsy matters. Today, I have over a dozen pair of prosthetic legs that various people have made for me, and with them I have different negotiations of the terrain under my feet, and I can change my height — I have a variable of five different heights. (Laughter) Today, I'm 6'1". And I had these legs made a little over a year ago at Dorset Orthopedic in England and when I brought them home to Manhattan, my first night out on the town, I went to a very fancy party. And a girl was there who has known me for years at my normal 5'8". Her mouth dropped open when she saw me, and she went, "But you're so tall!" And I said, "I know. Isn't it fun?" I mean, it's a little bit like wearing stilts on stilts, but I have an entirely new relationship to door jams that I never expected I would ever have. And I was having fun with it. And she looked at me, and she said, "But, Aimee, that's not fair." (Laughter) (Applause) And the incredible thing was she really meant it. It's not fair that you can change your height, as you want it. And that's when I knew — that's when I knew that the conversation with society has changed profoundly in this last decade. It is no longer a conversation about overcoming deficiency. It's a conversation about augmentation. It's a conversation about potential. A prosthetic limb doesn't represent the need to replace loss anymore. It can stand as a symbol that the wearer has the power to create whatever it is that they want to create in that space. So people that society once considered to be disabled can now become the architects of their own identities and indeed continue to change those identities by designing their bodies from a place of empowerment. And what is exciting to me so much right now is that by combining cutting-edge technology — robotics, bionics — with the age-old poetry, we are moving closer to understanding our collective humanity. I think that if we want to discover the full potential in our humanity, we need to celebrate those heartbreaking strengths and those glorious disabilities that we all have. I think of Shakespeare's Shylock: "If you prick us, do we not bleed, and if you tickle us, do we not laugh?" It is our humanity, and all the potential within it, that makes us beautiful. Thank you. Amazon Go 至全聯攜手IBM,將啟動人工智惠型通路與購物服務,更將導至未來「無人商店」( Amazon Go, will launch artificial intelligence and shopping services, will lead to future "unmanned stores" )

亞馬遜刺激,實體店面物聯網技術快速發展,重新定義「無人商店」

亞馬遜(Amazon)對實體通路攻城掠地,讓通路界人心惶惶,2016 年 12 月宣布 2017 年將於西雅圖開張無人實體便利商店 Amazon Go,則成了實體通路心理上的轉捩點,所有先前還對新科技有所抵抗的實體通路,聽到  Amazon Go 的消息後,都不得不積極面對。這股趨勢顯現在 2017 年 1 月美國國家通路聯盟(National Retail Federation)2017 年大展(BIG Show 2017)上,各種實體店面的物聯網、虛擬實境等技術大行其道。

通路物聯網技術公司 Everseen 執行長艾倫‧歐赫里希(Alan O’Herlihy)表示,Amazon Go 雖然只是單點測試的概念商店,但是對實體通路業者來說,卻有如當頭棒喝,紛紛感到「糟了,非得做什麼不可」。

事實上,早在此之前,實體通路就已經面臨相當大的壓力,傳統實體通路來店人潮已經連續 4 年萎縮,而美國經濟可是處於復甦期,實體通路龍頭梅西百貨(Macy’s)與勞氏(Lowe’s)業績不振宣布裁員數千人;相對地,亞馬遜營收卻大幅增長,還要增僱 10 萬員工。據萬事達卡(MasterCard)通路趨勢報告 SpendingPulse,2016 年底聖誕購物季,美國通路總營收增長 4%,但增長主要來自線上通路,線上營收增加了 19%。

傳統通路先前就已經感受到亞馬遜的強大壓迫,Amazon Go 的推出可說只是壓垮駱駝的最後一根稻草,但這根稻草造成通路心態絕大的改變。

通路攝影追蹤技術公司明日通路(RetailNext)行銷長瑞‧哈特仁(Ray Hartjen)證言 Amazon Go 造成的變化,表示 Amazon Go 讓許多通路業者頓時明白,物聯網科技通路時代確實已經來臨,不再只是紙上談兵。先前通路受到亞馬遜壓力時,認為只要也建個網站,弄個線上商店就行了,現在它們覺悟到:真正需要科技化改變的,是它們的店面。在這樣的情緒下,未來通路引進新科技到實體店面的速度將大為增加。

相關科技廠商磨刀霍霍,積極搶食這股龐大商機,美國國家通路聯盟 2017 年大展上,通路科技百花齊放,Autonomous 展示遠端通訊機器人,可代替員工巡視店面,員工只要坐在辦公室,就能一次監控多數機器人,在店內以更高的密度提供顧客所需的服務,包括用遠端操控提供資訊,以及回答問題等,這樣的技術可望減少人事成本、減輕人員勞動程度,卻能提供更好的服務。

IT 大廠也不會放過這樣的潮流,Google 發表擴增實境(AR)手機 App,讓消費者可以在虛擬模特兒上試穿衣服,或是在家中模擬顯示想買的家具放在家中的樣子,類似台廠宅妝(iStaging)所提供的服務;英特爾(Intel)則發表藍牙、影像及 Wi-Fi 感測器,讓店主能在店內追蹤消費者的行為,更了解消費者的購物習慣,目前英特爾的此項感測器已經安裝於 100 家實體店面,合作對象包括 Levi’s 與 Thomas Pink 等。

英特爾物聯網通路部門表示,看到許多通路開始動起來,且急著行動,尤其 Amazon Go 推出後,通路業者心中的急迫性更是大增。英特爾已經看準了這個商機,打算投入 1 億美元開發物聯網通路平台「反應通路平台」(Responsive Retail Platform,RRP),串聯店內所有物聯網軟硬體

Amazon Go 是否能大展鴻圖,或是是否很快展店到全球,還在未定之天,不過,可以肯定的是,在 Amazon Go 的刺激下,實體通路與物聯網科技廠商積極攜手合作,全球的實體通路店面,很快就會大有不同。

全聯攜手IBM,啟動5年革新轉型

全聯福利中心將2014年視為革新元年,今日宣布全聯將與台灣IBM攜手合作,啟動五年發展藍圖,從什麼都便宜轉型為「來全聯買進美好生活」的策略,落實2017年開店千家,2020年營收朝向二千億元的目標。

全聯今年在總裁徐重仁的帶領之下,期許全聯成為台灣人的幸福超市。全聯將與IBM攜手合作,以全聯的在地優勢加上IBM的全球經驗,共同啟動台灣的流通業二次革命。

全聯福利中心總裁徐重仁表示,全聯與台灣IBM攜手合作,創造超市幸福新體驗,呼應他接任時的啟動台灣流通二次新革命的願景;除了提供更好的購物環境及快速結帳等有感服務,並加強農漁產、生鮮之產品質量,符合超市以家庭為主的消費模式。徐重仁強調,企業不應以獲利為唯一考量,全聯將不再強調低價,但優質平價的策略不會改變。

全聯福利中心總經理蔡篤昌表示,全聯為完全的本土品牌,為了朝向全球性超市發展,才開啟與百年企業的台灣IBM攜手,在制度及系統上轉型及提升。乾貨部分將強化庫存管理,並提升與台灣農業的結合,像是QR Core可以掃瞄出農產履歷,第三是全聯有750萬會員,幾乎家戶都是全聯會員,期望透過會員的資料分析,進一步達到滿足個人消費。雙方合作首要任務就是提升全聯IT系統,並在未來五年逐步實現資訊轉型。

全聯與台灣IBM共同擬定企業中長期策略定位,同時針對組織文化、營運績效及人才培育等面向提出五年發展藍圖,短期目標為門市質的提升及顧客服務的優化,中長期目標則是傾聽全聯750萬會員的聲音,提升個人與家庭化之商品及服務,創造幸福的購物體驗。

IBM將藉由全球零售經驗及科技之創新服務,透過打造智慧零售,消費者為中心,精準與預測行銷,全通路消費,多元化顧客服務以及購物新體驗等營運方針,協助全聯轉型;同時發展安心食品及生鮮超市的透明履歷管理,協助全聯塑造超市品牌形象。

IBM大中華區董事長暨首席執行總裁錢大群指出,這次全聯與IBM強強聯手,以個性化的互動與服務,突破以往做不到的事,讓一件商品從農產上游到消費者手中的過程效益提昇,成功打造幸福的超市。

台灣IBM全球企業諮詢服務事業群合夥人黃月金則說,全聯目前在全台約有700間門市,會員數多達750萬人,想要轉型現在欠的只是東風,要如何了解每一位消費者不同的需求,最重要的是聽聽顧客的聲音,要如何從那麼大量會員的海量資料裡面,提出讓消費者有感的促銷,讓消費者體驗一流的購物經驗,開啟一致性之跨通路購物與服務。

台灣流通業教父徐重仁又出招!全聯福利中心總裁徐重仁13日宣布,將與台灣IBM締結策略聯盟。藉由海量資料、雲端等智慧技術,根據不同客層的消費習慣打造網購、APP等「全通路購物平台」,方便消費者取得購物訊息和產銷履歷,創造啟動流通業的「二次革命」。

徐重仁在13日的記者會中,將2014年定位為全聯的「革新元年」。他表示,盼此次合作有助落實2017年展店數達1千家,2020年營收破2千億的願景。全聯總經理蔡篤昌說,全聯將借重台灣IBM在資訊端的技術,建立涵括從門市、網購、APP 到 Email 的全通路購物平台,讓消費者能及時取得所需的購物訊息;基於食安考量,也將建立食品溯源的雲端平台,結合產地履歷和QR Code技術,讓生鮮食品管理透明化。

徐重仁解釋,全聯要成為「更乾淨、結帳速度更快,成為消費者更好的鄰居。」他也強調,全聯的定位是「家庭超市」而非便利商店,本次合作能擴大通路,也有協助振興台灣農業的意義。

台灣IBM總經理黃慧珠舉例說明,像她在下班後回家要燒菜, 80幾歲的婆婆早在冰箱中放滿從全聯買來的生鮮,對婆婆來說,「全聯已經取代傳統市場的地位」;就連去礁溪泡湯,也是從當地全聯買水和毛巾,顯示全聯在台灣人生活中已經佔有重要地位。

全聯擁有近700家門市、「福利卡」會員突破750萬人。未來台灣IBM將利用海量資料技術,蒐集並分析會員購物習性,並區分銀髮族、SOHO族等不同客群,提供最適合顧客的購物模式。

RETAIL Intel To Invest More Than $100M In Retail IoT

Semiconductor giant Intel has committed to invest more than $100 million over the course of the next five years in the retail industry to connect the physical and virtual components of retail operations.

In a blog post, Intel said it’s launching the new Intel Responsive Retail Platform, which reinforces its effort to integrate the Internet of Things and other technologies into the retail industry. The platform is aimed at helping change how people shop and how shops serve customers.

“Every technology provider knows customers can derive savings and increase manageability and security of client PCs via remote management solutions. In retail, though, the advantages are especially profound. Retail businesses require the highest level of productivity from POS client machines to maximize profitability and deliver exceptional customer service,” Intel wrote.

What’s more, Intel said the security environment is particularly demanding in the retail market, with POS systems constantly at risk of being attacked by sophisticated bad guys. Intel pointed to research from Gartner and CompuCom that found 70 percent of all retail breaches happen at the point of sale. “Technology providers and MSPs working in the retail sector can deliver immediate gains in efficiency, manageability and security with solutions made possible by Intel® Active Management Technology (AMT),” Intel said. “This is built into all new 7th Generation Intel Core vPro processor family platforms.”

While Intel is announcing a new $100 million investment, it has long been a player in the IoT market. In 2015, Intel debuted technology designed for “smart” vending machines — the first gateway specifically geared to that industry. ....
